As a colour, black holds great significance from a design perspective on so many levels. It’s a colour that never goes out of fashion and will combine and contrast majestically with a range of other shades. Depending on the finish of the tile the look of black can change dramatically. With a high gloss finish black can have a glass-like reflective quality. In contrast matt black tiles absorb light to provide a more refined look. A timeless combination is that of black and white which is used for maximum effect as a stunning contrast of shades. Opposed to lighter colours which will show up even the smallest amount of dirt black conceals it extremely well, which is why black tiles are a popular choice for shops, restaurants and hair salons. From plain black tiles to others which contain black mixed with different colours we have a wide range of styles available. Decorative black ceramic tiles can act as an exquisite feature in bathrooms and kitchens and are also a cost effective option.

What you combine black tiles with is just as important as the tile itself. It is true that black tiles on their own provide a stunning backdrop but to make the most of this, combining them with the right colours and styles is highly significant to the overall decor. For an effective contrast in bathrooms, black tiles work well with white bath panels and sinks. Likewise, wood effect or genuine wood units in kitchens are also popular with black tiles. Black colours can actually appear rather differently depending on what the material of the tile is. In the case of engineered porcelain and ceramic, the black can be accentuated by a glaze or high gloss finish. It is a shade which can only be described as jet black as it is the manufacturers aim to make the tile as black as possible. Quartz black tiles are the same yet they have a twist, with a surface covered in sparkly mirror particles. I suppose the closest natural stone tile to the engineered black colour shown in the likes of porcelain and ceramic is that of granite. Polished black granite tiles have an emphatic colour and furthermore the crystalline quality is enhanced. In contrast slate with its matt finish has a less distinctive black colour as it appears more like a dark grey shade.
